Disability Sensitivity Reading Services for Self-Publishing Authors

Ensuring Your Story Respects and Supports Marginalised Identities

Write With Care

Sensitivity reading is all about making sure your story uplifts rather than undermines, and resonates rather than harms people of marginalised identities.

I offer disability and feminist sensitivity reading that helps you write with integrity and respect, to welcome new readers into your worlds instead of pushing them away.

Book titled 'Dragon Dreamer' by Ella T Holmes rests on a white background. The book cover is shades of forest green and features a digitally drawn dragon above the white text of the title.

How I Can Help You:

- Targeted feedback from a feminist disability justice lens, focussing on representation, character arcs, dialogue, worldbuilding, and framing.

- Insight into harmful tropes and how to rewrite them with nuance and added depth.

- Support in mitigating stereotypes, bigotry, and negative imagery, so your work reflects the complexity and dignity of real lives.

- Flexible communication style. Whether you want direct critique or a gentler approach, I’ll meet you where you are.

- Budget-friendly services that respect your process and publishing goals.

Do I really need a sensitivity reader?

Representation shapes how we see ourselves, each other, and the world.

A sensitivity reader who is knowledgeable and experiences in specific areas can help you avoid unintentional harm, help deepen your characters, and build trust with readers who deserve to see themselves portrayed with care.

This step shows you respect your audience, which builds loyalty and increases the likelihood your readers will encourage others to pick up your book.

How it works:

1. Fill in the form at the bottom of the page with the details I need to know.

2. I will e-mail you with my availability and an estimated timeframe of completion based on word count.

3. Depending on your wants and needs, I love to have a Google Meeting where we introduce ourselves, discuss your project and what you hope to get from my editing services as well as any particular concerns you have.

This helps us both develop a better understanding of whether I am a good fit for you, and alleviates some anxiety about sending your work out to someone you don’t know.

4. I will send updates as I pass each quarter of the book so you know where I’m at and that progress is being made.

5. The steps from here vary from person to person and project to project!

6. You will receive a document from me outlining my thoughts and suggestions on how to fix up any potential issues, and I am also open to discuss them in a Google Meet to answer any questions.
